Fatality 'shrine' at Penkridge

Near Penkridge, on the Teddesley Road, you'll see this sad 'shrine'. It's dedicated to Lesley, who died in a car accident on this spot. The piece of paper says she died in 2002, so whoever looks after this spot has never forgotten. it always has fresh flowers when I see it.

You used to see a lot of these, though few are as permanent as this one. They are sad reminders of the cost of driving.
I don't know why, but there are not many now - perhaps because the number of fatal road accidents is decreasing (?)

  1. I had been thinking of doing a post on this for a while now, would have done so before but my mother was hit by a car in the village where she lived, she died a few days later.
I think that some councils have a problem with memorials and remove them also I think you are right there are less fatalities.

  2. The other victim was Darren Marsh. It happened June time around about 1990.The mini they were travelling in crashed and ended up in the canal. Very sad.

  3. It was actually June 1989 Darren and Lesley were returning from a night out together. It's thought they may have swerved to avoid hitting baby rabbits and the fence was not strong enough to prevent going into the canal. Both parents visit regularly.Darren lived in Newbridge Lesley lived in stoke very sadly missed.I
